Tour Details

Day 1Beijing

Your guide will pick you up from the hotel in the morning and accompany you to the starting point of today’s hiking trip at Jinshanling Great Wall. It is considered as steep terrain, but with good visibility. It has many watchtowers and beacon towers. This section of the Great Wall is almost without maintenance, with only a few wall remnants. The total length of 10 kilometers, will take around 4 hours to hike. The end of the hike at Simatai Great Wall has a sliding-cable ride (optional) to the bottom, for the hikers who would like to experience the adventure. Lunch and dinner are included. Tips: The middle section of the Great Wall is dangerous as no repairs have been carried out, there are no walls on either side and it is steep terrain. Do not walk up the old steps as it may be easy to fall down to the deep bottom. Some dangerous sections have to be climbed up using your hands and feet, the angle even being close to 90 degrees.

Day 2Beijing

Today is another hiking day on the east section of the Simatai Great Wall. It is divided into two sections — west and east — by a large valley; if you stand on the east section you can feast your eyes on the rolling snake-like walls on the mountain ridge, with a total of 16 watchtowers, counted as the steepest section of terrain traversed by the Great Wall. A main feature is that this is one of the few sections to retain the original style of the Ming Dynasty Great Wall. The most dangerous sections between the 13th and 16th towers are blocked for visitors. A cable car is available to get up to an area close to the 8th tower, and visitors can continue to climb up the wall or walk / take a cable car down to the bottom. Lunch will be arranged in the local restaurant at the foot of the Simatai Great Wall.
