The Simatai Great Wall Day Tour

The Simatai section of the Great Wall is located in the north of Miyun County, 120 km northeast of Beijing. It takes about 2½ hours by bus to get to Simatai from central Beijing. Simitai has always been popular for its steepness and eccentricity. The newly-built Gubei Water Town at the foot of the mountain adds some elegance and softness to the Wall.

This section of Great Wall is one of the few to retain the original features of the Ming dynasty (1368–1644) Great Wall. For the sake of safety, only ten watchtowers from Tower 1 to Tower 10 along the east section are still open to visitors, as it is super steep to reach the other towers.

The walks on the Great Wall at Simatai are graded moderate and require a good level of fitness, as some sections involve steep ups and downs. You will be walking for about 3 hours (5 kilometers) for a round-trip. Cable car is available for customers who would like to see the great views but do not wish to climb all the way up.
